Demonstrating engineering precision and geosynthetic installation expertise, our team successfully delivered complete supply and installation services for the wastewater containment ponds at the Kampong Cham Wastewater and Drainage Subproject.

Operating under Cambodia’s Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT), this major municipal infrastructure development was executed in partnership with prime contractor.

Project Overview & Key Specifications

  • Project Scope: Complete impermeable geosynthetic barrier system for Anaerobic Pond 1, Anaerobic Pond 2, and the centralized Sludge Treatment Pond.
  • Primary Lining Material: Smooth High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) Geomembrane in dual-layer engineered configurations (1.0 mm primary/base liner and heavy-duty 2.54 mm slope containment liner).
  • Sub-Base & Protection: Class A non-woven geotextile cushion layer (min. 125 g/m²), engineered sand leveling bedding, crushed stone drainage layers, and lean concrete sub-slabs.
  • Seaming Technology: Dual-track hot-wedge thermal fusion welding for linear panel runs, complemented by handheld hot-air extrusion fillet welding for complex geometries and junctions.
  • Hydraulic Penetrations: Custom-fabricated HDPE pipe boot seals and prefabricated puddle flange collars (ranging from 400NB to 500NB) to guarantee zero seepage at inflow/outflow connections.

Engineering & Execution Highlights

1. Subgrade Preparation & Anchor Trenching The containment basins required strict foundation preparation, including compacted cohesive fill and a non-woven geotextile interface to isolate sharp aggregate and prevent puncture under hydraulic head pressure. Perimeters were locked into reinforced anchor trenches and structural concrete tie-ins around the pond crests at elevation (+) 13.50 m.

2. Precision Thermal Welding & Quality Control Large-format geomembrane rolls were deployed along critical 2.5:1 side slopes to minimize transverse seams. Overlaps were welded using automated hot-wedge equipment creating a continuous air pressure test channel. Destructive shear/peel tests and non-destructive air-pressure testing were conducted on all dual-track seams to comply with international geosynthetic standards (GRI-GM13).

3. Complex Penetration Sealing & Pipe Boot Detailing A critical technical demand involved sealing multiple DN400 and DN500 HDPE water collection lines, decant pipes, and inlet/outlet penetrations. Our certified field technicians fabricated custom extrusion-welded HDPE boots, mechanically clamped and welded to puddle flanges to ensure liquid-tight performance across dynamic settlement zones.

Long-Term Environmental Impact

The installed geomembrane system delivers high chemical resistance against harsh municipal effluents, biogas degradation, and prolonged tropical UV exposure. By forming a zero-permeability hydraulic barrier, the lining guarantees total containment of raw sewage and sludge digestate, safeguarding local groundwater aquifers and the Mekong River basin.
